Europeans bank Dank win in Filly & Mare Turf

RYAN MOORE and Dank struck out for home at the top of the straight and held off all challengers to give Sir Michael Stoute his sixth victory at the Breeders’ Cup.   Her win continued European dominance of the Turf races at this year’s Cup after both races on the grass on Friday were won by British raiders.

The Andre Fabre-trained Romantica finished second for France behind Dank, and Alterite was best of the domestic challengers in third.   The four-year-old winner was hot favourite for the race after a brilliant four and a half length win in the Beverly D Stakes at Arlington in August, her last outing.   Moore said afterwards his filly had not been at her best and her win was undeniably less sensational than her Arlington romp, but she still knuckled down impressively to grind out the hard yards close home when rivals were breathing down her neck.   “I thought she was the best filly in the race and it worked out that way,” said Moore.   “She’s a very good filly who has improved her whole career and has a very good win record – that’s seven from 12 now.”   The filly has now won four of five this year, and her trainer said that but for a setback she would have had a perfect record.   “I think she should be unbeaten this year but she had a little incident before Royal Ascot,” said Stoute.   “If I’m allowed to keep her in training she will show us how good she is in Europe.”
