Amlin Plus puts up record £7,000 prize money pool for CIC2* class at Brightling Park Horse Trials

In response to recent debate about the woeful prize money on offer in eventing, equine insurance specialist Amlin Plus has put up in excess of £7,000 with £2,500 going to the winner of the CIC2* class at this year’s Brightling Park International Horse Trials.

The hugely popular event in East Sussex, which will be held on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 July 2014, regularly attracts more than 400 entries from all over the world, including renowned Olympians Mark Todd, Pippa Funnell, Tina Cook and Zara Phillips.

David Ashby, Managing Director of Amlin Plus, commented that this event now offers some of the best prize money in the country: “The lack of prize money in eventing is something that has caused much comment. Having event horses myself, and speaking regularly with riders and owners, I think it is near impossible for a professional rider to actually make a reasonable living in the sport nowadays, other than through horse dealing. Hopefully this sponsorship will ensure a good number of starters, and that the winner will feel their efforts have been rewarded properly.”

International event rider Mark Todd has been particularly vocal on this subject recently. He added: “It is brilliant news that Amlin Plus has got involved in the sport to put up decent money for the CIC2* class. It is hard to get sponsorship at the moment so great effort from Brightling Park to secure this support and I am sure riders will support the class.”
