Olympia welcomes world’s top dressage riders
London’s Olympia will welcome the world’s best dressage riders, when it hosts the fourth leg of the Reem Acra FEI World Cup Dressage (16 and 17 December).
Charlotte Dujardin will be competing on her Olympic and European gold medal-winning partner Valegro. No doubt the world’s number one dressage rider will be hoping for another winning performance, as she took the title in 2012, when the pair also set a new world record.
“Winning the FEI World Cup Dressage at Olympia in 2012 on Valegro was just incredible and the support from the home crowds is always humbling,” she said. “There are very few competitions in the world that compare to the atmosphere at Olympia and it is undoubtedly one of the greatest shows there is. Fingers crossed we can repeat our success from last year.”
Taking on Charlotte is her Olympic and European team mate Carl Hester, who will be riding Fine Time 13. Another Team GB member competing is Michael Eilberg, who made his British team debut at this year’s European Championships. He is entered with his team bronze medal partner, Half Moon Delphi.
Missing from the British medal wining line-up is Laura Tomlinson, who is retiring her long-standing dressage partner Mistral Højris during the evening programme on 17 December.
However, Laura’s stable jockey, Lara Griffith will make her Olympia and World Cup debut on Andretti H – a horse formerly ridden by Laura.
From overseas the three Dutch European team silver medallists, Edward Gal, Hans Peter Minderhoud and Danielle Heijkoop will be competing, as will Germany’s Ingrid Klimke. She will be riding nine-year-old Dresden Mann, one of the youngest horses in the competition.
