Blog: Celebrating the first year of jumps racing at Ascot
Thinking about the history of Ascot Racecourse, the champion horses and jockeys who have graced the turf since 1711, it is an exciting prospect each year to be involved with Ascot and commemorate the first year of jumps racing with the Amlin 1965 Steeple Chase.
The running takes place again this year on Saturday 23 November and we hope the weather conditions on the day are a little more favourable than last year for all involved! Looking back at the race last year it was a thrill to see Captain Chris win for an Amlin Plus clean sweep – not only sponsoring the race, but also trainer Philip Hobbs, jockey Richard Johnson and owner Mrs Whateley. We are hoping history can repeat itself in 2013 with Philip Hobbs having Captain Chris primed and ready for back-to-back wins in the race. Check out 2012 Amlin 1965 Steeple Chase race replay here.
For the Amlin Plus team, friends and family it will be a poignant day as we pay tribute to Harriet Roberts. Harriet’s passion and hard work has left us in good stead and we are honoured to remember her with the running of the Harriet Roberts Memorial National Hunt Flat Race.
Yes, believe it or not Christmas is merrily creeping its way closer and if you are planning to head to Ascot, they are also hosting a Christmas Shopping Village (22-23 November) – the perfect mix to catch the racing and get the Christmas shopping in!
